I miss you my friend!

Today is my good friend Barbara Quinn Shelley's birthday. She passed away after a very brave battle with cancer 3 1/2 years ago. My life seriously changed when I met this woman and was honored to call her my friend. I first met her serving together in our church's Young Women's program. I had the privilage of being 2 of her daughter's leader. It didn't take long before we became friends.

Barbara was one of the most amazing, talented and classiest people I've ever known. She was so willing to share her talents with me and others. I'm not sure I have ever met anyone more organized than she was. I learned so much from her.

We began a Craft Club with 6 friends and we met once a month and took turns teaching each other crafts. We all shared our birthdays together, traded Christmas gifts and even went on a few trips together. We always looked forward to our times together.

A few months before Barbara passed away we all wrote her letters for her birthday. As far as I know she never read those letters. Whatever her reasons it is ok. It was very therapeutic for me to write my letter to her expressing my gratitude for all that she had done for me and remembering some of the funny things we had done over the years. I have so many good memories. She was always willing to share, always willing to listen and always thoughtful of me.

There are many things in my home that she has given or made for me that are little treasures that remind me of her. I'm so grateful that I was able to know her and to have my life touched by hers.

I miss you my friend!

Thank you for the sweet reminder. You know, Barbara was just one of those rare people that left an impression on everyone. It is really hard to impress Kayty, but that she did! She still has all the things Sister Shelley gave to her in Young Women...and refuses to part with them. She truly misses Barbara! What a special opportunity we all had to be blessed by such a special Daughter of God. And just think of how much everyone on the other side of the veil is enjoying her!!!

What a beautiful tribute to your dear friend...it truly brought tears to my eyes. One of my best friends just moved to another state and I'm missing her terribly. It makes me cry to think about it. Wonderful, caring friends are hard to come by these days.

What a sweet post. Every time I see Brother Shelley, I always think of Barbara. She was a great woman. I remember going to her Christmas party every year. I loved it, and I was just a teeny bopper! She is surely missed.

What a great tribute and a tender time of reflection. I have thought so much about her recently. There are so many things I can't part with because they remind me of her or the fond memories of making them with our treasured "Craft Club". . I have a primitive doll that changes aprons once a month, you know the one.... The apron has remained unchanged since her death, and it sits on my desk next to the keyboard. I hope we never forget how important a good friend truly is. Love ya Friend.

Oh Kathy... I loved it! I loved looking at the pictures most of all. One of the things my mom taught me was the importance of girlfriends. The older I get, the more I need my girl time with friends!! I'm so glad she had friends like you to make her happy. She certainly loved you and so do I!

Kathy, thank you for the walk down memory lane. I have thought so much about Barb this week. It is so fresh still....and yet it seems like forever since we were all together. I long for those days... let's do it again soon. I miss not seeing you. Give your family a big hello.
